I am not sex positive

I’m tired of the “everything is awesome” school of uncritical sex positivity. More than uncritical, sex positivity seems to actively discourage examination by dismissing any analysis that isn’t positive or neutral (beyond Your Kink Is Not My Kink) as kink-shaming or any number of other reductive dismissals that preclude critical examination or discussion. Potential counterpoints are addressed by building straw men easily dismissed as vanilla or prudish, or as ignorant, uninformed, or inexperienced. Actual counterpoints are automatically deemed kink shaming or censorship. If criticism is already assumed as coming from some position on a sliding scale of ignorance/inexperience to dislike/disgust, … [read more]

sure, women are beautiful (but what else?)

Last year was the first I heard of International Women’s Day — several colleagues confirmed it’s relatively unknown in the U.S.. This year, when #internationalwomensday started trending a few days ago, I clicked. Of course, hashtags are only an indication of what people are talking about on Twitter, but based on that hashtag, I learned International Women’s Day is about celebrating women’s “beauty” with selfies — particularly makeup/no makeup selfies. *grumble* *grumble* *grumble* Intellectually, I understand celebrating body diversity and encouraging body acceptance and positivity are important parts of larger efforts for equality. slackjawed pickletits; slopebrowed weaseldicks

But as long as you hemorrhoidal gunt stains continue this asininity, [. . . .] it makes me want to pick you all up collectively and shake you until your rectum leaks out what little brains you have because YOU’RE SO FUCKING DUMB. It’s been too long since I last updated my celebrity crush list (though Rachel Maddow, Marc Maron, Henry Rollins, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson are still on it). Today, Chris Kluwe — outspoken gay (equal) rights advocate, same sex marriage supporter, Voltaire fan, card carrying nerd, gamergate destroyer, and former punter for some American football team — has … [read more]

a man mansplains the error in my last post

A few days ago, I made a silly graphic to illustrate the “taxonomy of mansplainers.” A day later, I received this email from a male reader… I’m just going to leave that there and go make myself a drink. a man mansplains the error in my last post was last modified: November 6th, 2014 by Dumb Domme
