I am not sex positive

I’m tired of the “everything is awesome” school of uncritical sex positivity. More than uncritical, sex positivity seems to actively discourage examination by dismissing any analysis that isn’t positive or neutral (beyond Your Kink Is Not My Kink) as kink-shaming or any number of other reductive dismissals that preclude critical examination or discussion. Potential counterpoints are addressed by building straw men easily dismissed as vanilla or prudish, or as ignorant, uninformed, or inexperienced. Actual counterpoints are automatically deemed kink shaming or censorship. If criticism is already assumed as coming from some position on a sliding scale of ignorance/inexperience to dislike/disgust, … [read more]

relaxing soak in a mild bleach solution

A relaxing soak in the tub — that’s a thing normal people do with free time. Without the stress of potential career collapse, for the first time in over a decade, I have free time. I’m glad, but if the past few weeks are any indication, I have absolutely no idea what to do with it (or myself). I also have a bath tub. brass ring

Background: A brass ring is a small grabbable ring that a dispenser presents to a carousel rider during the course of a ride. Usually there are a large number of iron rings and one brass one, or just a few. It takes some dexterity to grab a ring from the dispenser as the carousel rotates. The phrase to grab the brass ring is … [read more]

So, my career is ramping up, or ending. Possibly both. I’m not sure. In the beginning of this blog, I described my career as being on knife’s edge between up and coming industry expert or complete and total failure. That was the case some years before I started here, and it was years in the making before that. I’ll find out soon which side of the blade I’ll fall on. I don’t think I’ve ever worked so hard in all my life as I have these past few months. I routinely pull all-nighters like I’m a college kid (I’m not). … [read more]

sit you down and shut you up

I want a man who wants this. I want a man who wants me. Tell you things you didn’t know? Make you laugh? Sit you down and shut you up? Those are all things I’m good at and things I enjoy — they’re what I like most about myself. I’m not looking (I’m quite content on my own). But if he exists, and if I ever find him (or if he finds me), I hope he has strong teeth and likes doing windows. Also, I want Henry Rollins, but that’s not really the point.  sit you down and shut you … [read more]
