Last week, we defined “squicked.” This week, for your information and amusement, the second installment in Dumb Domme’s BDSM Lexicon is “pansexual.” Yeah, I don’t do phonetic pronunciation. IPA or die, bitches.

pansexual, n. or adj., /pænˈsɛkʃ(əw)əl/ (IPA)  [pan-sek-shoo-uhl] (spelled)

pansexual, n.: An individual who resists being defined on the basis of biological gender, stereotypically or culturally defined gender(ed) identities, limited sexualities, sexual preference, or sexual practice. One who acknowledges her, his, eirs¹, possibilities for sexual, physical, emotional, and/or intellectual connection across the broad spectrum of biologically interpreted genders, sexual orientations, and/or sex roles. Also called “polysexuality” and/or “omnisexuality.”

“I’m a pansexual because I consider myself gender-fluid and attracted to people’s personalities rather than their gender or orientation. Besides, being a bisexual is just too trendy right now.”

pansexual, adj.: Endorsing, including, or acknowledging a spectrum of gender, sexuality, and sexual practice.

“She hooked up with the transexual basil farmer at the organic farm co-op drum circle fund-raiser and now she identifies as a pansexual vegan.

Behaviors:

Pansexuals may be seen in relationships with multiple partners of any gender, in polyamorous families, or in monogamous relationships.

Often, pansexuals may be observed in online forums lecturing others about the incorrect cultural conventions of gender roles and the perceived normativity of monogamy.

Possible Origins:

The etymological derivation may stem from combination of the native American terms “pann” and “exual,” the literal translation meaning, “one who makes sex with man and vegetable.”

“Pansexual” may also have etymological origins in Greek mythology. The god Pan, visually depicted as having the torso of a man and the rear end of a goat, is characterized as “running wild” with nymphs, woodland elves, mythical beasts, mere mortals, and any number of other fuckable creatures. Really, who among us hasn’t wanted to fuck an elf?

Not to be Confused With:

Pansexuality probably shouldn’t be confused with “objectum sexuality,” unless it’s for the purposes of making jokes.

¹ Michael Spivak’s “genderless” pronoun. Michael Spivak should not be confused with Gayatri Spivak. Seriously.

  1. Wow, this: “She hooked up with the transexual basil farmer at the organic farm co-op drum circle fund-raiser and now she identifies as a pansexual vegan.“

Perfect. So sarcastic. It may in fact be the most sarcastic thing I have ever read. Or possibly the most ironical. I really can’t tell. Well, in any case, it made me laugh!

    Well done!
